State Street Station is the secondary railroad passenger station in New Haven, Connecticut
located 0.8 miles (1.3 km) northeast of the primary station in the city, Union Station. The station opened on June 7, 2002, for Shore Line East
trains and June 24, 2002, for Metro-North Railroad
trains. It is the penultimate westbound stop for the majority of Shore Line East
runs and is the terminal of Metro-North's New Haven Line for a limited number of peak-hour runs. A 500-space public parking garage is located across the street from the station at 360 State Street.

The New Haven Line has four tracks at this location. The platform is adjacent to Tracks 4 and 6. The two northern side tracks, numbered 1 and 2, are not adjacent to the platform and are used only by through trains.
Should the state of Connecticut begin commuter service north of New Haven to Hartford and Springfield, it is speculated a new platform will be added between tracks 1 and 2.

Bruce Becker has predicted that Metro North will increase the number of trains servicing the station once demand is visibly high enough. In an interview between the New Haven Independent and himself, Becker noted - “When we have 1,000 people living in this building, you’ll see more trains servicing the station.”
