Saint John Payne Catholic School is a Roman Catholic faith school
located in Chelmsford
, Essex. Established in 1959, it has been one of the leading faith schools in the area since its opening. The schools caters for over 900 pupils between the ages of 11-18.

on 25 October 1970. In 1977 the former Chelmsford Technical High School building was acquired by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brentwood
and this is now known as the Upper School building.
In Middle School, there are Religious Education, Geography and Science rooms, as well as a library. There are also two Access Centres (IT), a medical room and a hall used for assemblies and exams.
Upper School is the largest of all three buildings: it has a large hall for Mass, assemblies and other gatherings. There is a variety of subject classes in Upper School, including Science, English and the Technology Dept, ICT department and MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) department. There are also the main office and cafeterias. The school has a chapel and chaplaincy. The school's spacious grounds and playing fields occupy 25 acres (10.1 hectares). In 2009, Building work went underway for a new Sports hall, located at the back of Middle School, which is now in full use.
The school's motto is Avita Pro Fide which means Zeal For The Faith.
Students compete in their respective houses in inter-house sports competitions.

St John Payne Roman Catholic School was opened in 1959, and was originally known as the Blessed John Payne RC School. It was housed in what are now known as the Lower School buildings. School layout
There are three main areas in St John Payne Catholic School: the Lower, Middle and Upper School areas. In Lower School, there are a hall used for cover lessons and assemblies, the girls' changing rooms and a gym. Located in Lower School are Business Studies, Economics, Art, History, and IT rooms. Between Lower and Middle School, there is a picnic area. There is also a multigym with assorted equipment.In Middle School, there are Religious Education, Geography and Science rooms, as well as a library.
