On January 31, 1894, the church and the school were almost entirely destroyed by fire — with only the walls remaining. The church was rebuilt at a cost of $30,000; every dollar was donated. The church has survived many Ohio River floods, and the parish remains active today.

The altars of the church contain a plethora of electric marquee lights which serve as an integral part of their architecture.
