Smithycroft Secondary School

Smithycroft Secondary School is a relatively small co-educational day school in Glasgow. The school was formally opened in Feb 1968 by the RT. Honourable William Ross M.B.E MP Secretary of State for Scotland after two single sex schools were joined. This original building became affectionately known as "The Concrete Doughnut".
In 2002 the school relocated to a new building designated in the original playing fields of the old school. Today this remains the official residence, with Smithycroft being the first Private Partnership School . It is now also home of The Glasgow International Volleyball Club.
Uniform
The Junior school uniform consists of a white shirt and blue tie with purple and grey stripes and a navy blue or grey poloshirt and sweatshirt for practical subjects and physical education . The Senior school uniform consists of a white or black shirt with the optional black senior V-neck jumper and a blazer, this is completed with a silver tie that has purple and blue stripes.

With a school role of around 650, Smithycroft seeks to be a place of learning in the fullest sense. Trying to ensure through the design and structure of the courses, that all young people learn the facts, the techniques and the skills necessary to equip them for life.
Within the Arts Faculty of the school, Smithycroft Music Department compete in competitions at local and national level. In recent years the school has had a number of pupils selected to sing with the BBCSSO, during which pupils for across Glasgow attempted for solos-with Lauren Vidler from the Smithycroft successful in her attempt for two years running. Various bands, work shops, trips and experts in the field of music have visited the school to give inspirational talks and performances.
Sporting Achievement
Rugby
The school has participated in Rugby League championships across the UK for the last 6 years. Through this pupils have participated in rugby exchanges and tours to Spain, France and more notably Australia. A number of old Smithonians have been selected to go on to play for the Scotland Rugby team.
Athletics
Smithycroft is also home to a number of promising common wealth athletes most prominently Andrew Dearie and Nicky Stone. In February 2011 Dearie who trains with the shettleston Harriers finished 3rd in the Scottish U/20 3000m. Dearie is currently ranked high in British athletics and is a hopeful contender for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Fellow pupil Nicky Stone demonstrated the clubs strength in the Hammer when picking up the silver in the U/17 age group ( 54.73 ).
Rowing
In 2009/10 Smithycroft School had a successful rowing career with one pupil chosen to row for both Glasgow Schools and Clydesdale Rowing Club (where 3 pupils currently train). She has since continued Rowing at University level and currently rows for the Edinburgh University team and Castle Semple Rowing Club during summer time. All of this was possible due to the support and link between Smithycroft and Scottish Rowing.
Teachers at the top of each column are the Head of that department except for Art and P.E which are dealt with by the Heads of Music, Mrs Hunter and Mrs Milton.
The School also has 4 Guidance Teachers who teach Personal and Social Education as well as other subjects around the school, They are: Miss Campbell, Ms Stevenson, Ms Campanga and Ms Wilson.

Extracurricular activities
Smithycroft School, has for a number of years, taken pride in offering a wide variety of opportunity for pupils to become involved in their school, helping students prosper in their area of interest.
