, and was re-structured in 1986 when it separated off onto its own. Apart from its teaching and research commitments, the university is also responsible for health care provision to a community of four million people living in northern and northeastern Tehran

Optometry
The optometry program was established in 1972. Initially the course was designed as a higher diploma in optometry (two years undergraduate studies) and was upgraded to a four-year BSc with Honours programme in 1984.
