Encyclopedia
Scott Glenn Weinberg is an American attorney best known for defending high-profile criminal cases in the state of Michigan.
During his time in the Macomb County Prosecutors Office (1991–1994), Weinberg prosecuted more than 75 Capital Felony trials and became Chief of the Criminal Sexual Conduct Unit. In that post, Weinberg prosecuted the notorious case People of the State of Michigan v. John Wisniewski, the 1993 conviction of a man involved in the Big Brother Big Sister program who molested his little brother and was convicted with a 10-year prison sentence.
Weinberg was the lead prosecutor on more than 100 trials, including People vs. Donald Debolt, a case covered extensively on Court TV
. In that 1994 case, a Sterling Heights psychologist was accused of having sex with a patient being treated for mental illness. While many in the Macomb County Prosecutors Office believed the case too difficult to try, then Asst. APA Weinberg decided to take the case to court and in the process, discovered that the defendant committed the same offense with several other patients in 10 years of practice. Celebrated attorney Geoffrey Fieger
simultaneously sued the doctor in a civil suit on behalf of the patient, and famed attorney William Bufalino provided the criminal defense.
After that case ended (the defendant accepted a plea bargain after the trial ended in a 11-1 hung jury), Bufalino hired Weinberg to work as an attorney in his firm, Bufalino and Palazzolo, P.C., in Clinton Township, Michigan. The firm was best known for its defense of Teamster leader James Hoffa. Weinberg practiced law alongside Bufalino from 1994 to 1997. Bufalino’s father, William Bufalino Sr., was senior counsel in the Hoffa defense.
Throughout his career, Weinberg has provided expert commentary on court cases on TV and radio, including as a guest commentator on Court TV, WJR
and WXYT on noted cases such as People v. Jack Kevorkian, the Jenny Jones Murder case, the People v. Donald Debolt rape trial, and People v. Watts. He has had many articles in the Detroit Free Press, The Macomb Daily and the Oakland Press
