within a definite time frame. He is also credited with setting up the first call centre
among the collectorates of Maharashtra. The project, labeled Dial 1917: Citizen's Helpline allowed any citizen to obtain real-time information about various government procedures by telephone, instead of appearing in person.
Dr. Mukherjee was instrumental in framing the policy for development of power loom
s in Maharashtra. He also successfully revived ailing spinning mills in his stint as the Director of Textiles. He is credited with initiating the restructuring of the Maharashtra State Handloom Corporation.
Earlier, as Collector of Jalgaon, a water-scarce region in Northern Maharashtra, he initiated a massive program of water harvesting and conservation. This was named "Amche Shivar, Amcha Pani" (Our courtyard's water is ours) and evoked a massive response. The effort continues as a permanent feature in the district.
