It was originally opened as 'Oldbury' in 1852 and was one of two stations in the town. The more centrally located Great Western Railway

was located on the site of the bingo hall opposite the Sainsburys super market and was the only station on the GWR's Oldbury Branch Line from Langley Green

However, in the 1984 it was rebuilt as a railway station designed to serve the metropolitan borough

Current Services are as follows:
- 2 London Midland stopping services each to Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street, one of which travels onwards to Walsall via Aston
- 2 Virgin Trains services - one to Wolverhampton and the other to London Euston via Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International, Coventry and either Milton Keynes or Watford Junction. Occasionally services will also stop at Rugby.
