Nestled in the Appennines, less than 40 kilometers from the Adriatic coast, the medieval town lies on the northern edge of the Parco Nazionale della Majella. One of San Valentino's most important architectural landmarks is Castello Farnese.
Little known by tourists, San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore with its narrow, streets and stone buildings and fountains fed by mountain streams provides a glimpse of Abruzzo's past.
In mid-November, the town hosts the Festival of Cuckolds (Festa dei Cornuti), a parade honoring or deriding (depending on one's perspective) men with adulterous wives.
