. The municipality covers an area of 29.34 km².
It is part of the Miahuatlán District
in the south of the Sierra Sur Region
. As of 2005, the municipality had a total population of 632.
It is located in the southern state of Oaxaca, coordinates 16 ° 26 'north latitude and 96 ° 45' west longitude at an altitude of 1,460 meters above sea level. It is located 289 kilometers from the state capital. It is a mountainous region with a temperate climate with summer rainfalls. The most precious natural resource is its timberland.
