As per another theory the city came into existence around 500 BC. It was mentioned as Rohitaka Kūla, Rohitaka Giri or Rohitakapura in Vedic Text and as per tradition the city is said to be founded by Rohit, the son of Harishcandra
Rohtak's climate shows extreme variation in temperature. It does not usually fall below freezing point in the winter months from November to January. In summer from April to July, the day temperature generally remains between 30°C and 40°C occasionally going up to 44°C on a few days.

History
Rohtak is said to be a corruption of Rohtashgarh, a name still applied to the ruined sites of two older sites, one lying immediately north of the present town and other about 5 km towards the east. Traditionally, it is named after Raja Rohtash, in whose days the city is said to have been built. It is also claimed that the town derives its name from the Roherra (Tacoma undulate) tree called Rohitaka in SanskritSanskrit
