He attended Bell Lane Primary School where he was taught Drama by Anna Scher who later went on to set up The Anna Scher Theatre

 in Islington. Thereafter Robin went on to Hendon County Grammar School, leaving in 1975. Drama and sports were his favourite subjects and it was during his last year at Bell Lane where Scher cast him in the lead role in the school play, 'The Mayflower'. From then on the acting/film bug caught him.

In 1990, he won a Creative Award at the US Film & Video Festival for his documentary Freddie Aguilar a Child of the Revolution.

During the year, he also directed the Pop Video Paraiso for the Filipino group group Smokey Mountain (band). The video featured several shots of the rubbish tip in Metro Manila called Smokey Mountain and there were attempts by the Aquino Government to ban the video. However strong opposition from the composer Ryan Cayayab and the band itself stopped that from happening.

Robin Jacob won a Telly Award in 2005 for his documentary The Battle of Manila. He continues to produce and direct documentaries about Asia.
