Mateja's best individual World Cup finish was fifth twice in the individual large hill event (1996, 2001). He has three individual victories in Continental Cup events (2003, 2004, 2007).

Mateja retired from competitive sport in 2008 to work as an assistant coach of Polish national ski jumping team.
