The Riverina Football League was formed in 1982 when the South Western District Football League, the Central Riverina Football League and the Farrer Football League amalgamated to create the Riverina Football League and Riverina District Football League, the latter changing its name back to the Farrer Football LeagueFarrer Football League

Today the Riverina Football League serves as the first division for AFL Riverina, with the Farrer Football League being the second division.
