Conquered from the Moors

For most of the twentieth century, cultivation of apple trees was the main economic activity in the region. Some apple varieties are said to be endemic, especially the "esperiega" or "espedriega". Due to large migration, which saw thousands of inhabitants move to major cities such as Valencia or Barcelona, agriculture declined and has almost been abandoned today.
