On January 1, 2009, the municipality of Rüti bei Riggisberg
became part of the municipality of Riggisberg.
Riggisberg has an area of 7.7 km² (3 sq mi). Of this area, 76.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 9.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 12.8% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.5%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
Rüti bei Riggisberg has an area of 22.2 km² (8.6 sq mi). Of this area, 32.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 64.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 2.1% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (1.5%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP
which received 50.7% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS
(13.2%), the FDP
(12.7%) and the Green Party
(8.1%).
The age distribution of the population is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 22.9% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 57.6% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 19.4%.
