. There are currently 12 grades in the school, grades 1-4 following the PYP, 5-9 the MYP and 10-12 the Finnish national curriculum. The language of instruction is given in three languages - English, Finnish and French.. The school's objective is to provide free, basic education for European teenagers.

Currently, Ressu has approximately 650 students and 45 teachers. Three quarters of the students are Finnish and the remaining one fourth consists of some 22 different nationalities. Ressu has at least 23 classrooms.

In Finland, the comprehensive schools provide basic education for lower levels and their tasks include both teaching and a broader educational role. Their objective is to provide each pupil with the opportunity for diverse growth and immigrants and learning and for development of healthy self-esteem. All comprehensive schools aim to provide good basic skills and knowledge and sufficient all-round learning. Ressu is a public school and is managed by the City of Helsinki.

History

The school was originally established in 1731. The current school building was built in 1859, and renovated in 1956-1957. The air conditioning

 system was renovated in 2006, but has since malfunctioned again with no further renovations planned. Ressu became a comprehensive school in 1975.

German airplanes bombed the school's play ground during the World War I, with approximately 14 fatalities.

2011 Bomb Scare

In mid-September, 2011, a home-made bomb was found in the men's bathroom at about 8:53 AM during the first break by one of the students in grade 9. Police are still investigating the matter, and are glad the bomb was found and properly defused before any explosion took place.
