The Prix du Muguet was not run in 1971, but it returned the following year with Group 3 status. It was absent again in 1974, and for a period thereafter it was regularly transferred to Longchamp (1976–77, 1982–83 and 1985). It was promoted to Group 2 level in 1995.
The race is traditionally held on May 1, the French public holiday
of Fête du Travail
(which coincides with the Fête du Muguet). Muguet is the French name for the spring-flowering plant Lily of the Valley

History
The original version of the Prix du Muguet was a 2,000-metre race restricted to three-year-olds. The present format, a 1,600-metre race for older horses, was introduced in 1967. It was temporarily switched to Longchamp and contested over 2,000 metres in 1968.The Prix du Muguet was not run in 1971, but it returned the following year with Group 3 status. It was absent again in 1974, and for a period thereafter it was regularly transferred to Longchamp (1976–77, 1982–83 and 1985). It was promoted to Group 2 level in 1995.
