Shelepen began skating at the age of four-and-a-half. In 2011, she told an interviewer that she'd been taken to the rink by her mother, because she "didn't like to go to kindergarten because there everyone had to eat a cream of wheat".She won silver at the 2009–2010 Junior Grand Prix Final
