of Bern in Switzerland
.
It lies on the northern side of the Stockhorn mountains in the lower end of the Stockental valley. Like most of the canton of Bern, it is German-speaking.
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP
which received 68.3% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS
(7.6%), the CVP
(6.6%) and the Green Party
(6.4%).
The age distribution of the population is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 20.8% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 62.8% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 16.4%. Pohlern has an area of 9.9 km² (3.8 sq mi). Of this area, 37.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 42.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 2.1% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (18.3%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).It lies on the northern side of the Stockhorn mountains in the lower end of the Stockental valley.
