Geography

Pohlern has an area of 9.9 km² (3.8 sq mi). Of this area, 37.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 42.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 2.1% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (18.3%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).

It lies on the northern side of the Stockhorn mountains in the lower end of the Stockental valley. Like most of the canton of Bern, it is German-speaking.
