In the middle of it is a fountain whose top is the figure of a colt that lifts his hands holding a sign with the coat of arms of the city. This Renaissance

-style fountain dates from 1577, and the foal which is topped gives its name to the square. Until 1847 was located on the opposite side of the plaza that now occupies.

It is also in this square the famous Posada del Potro, mentioned by Cervantes
