Plaistow is a place in the London Borough of Newham
in east London. It formed part of the County Borough of West Ham
in Essex
until 1965.
Plaistow is a mainly residential area, including several council estates; the main road is the A112 - Plaistow Road, High Street, Broadway, Greengate Street and Prince Regent Lane. It contains relatively few shops and amenities. The Black Lion public house was frequented by West Ham United football (soccer) players such as Bobby Moore
in the 1960s and 70s .
Plaistow is currently undergoing extensive urban re-generation including replacement of council homes. Newham, of which Plaistow is part, was in 2007 the 6th most deprived
borough in the UK , and with an ethnically diverse population; it is hoped the staging of the Olympic Games at nearby Stratford in 2012 will bring greater prosperity to the area.
