Pikes Peak International Raceway

Pikes Peak International Raceway, also known as PPIR, is a participant focused racetrack located in Fountain, Colorado
, 20 miles (32.2 km) south of Colorado Springs
and 25 miles (40.2 km) north of Pueblo
. Before its temporary closure in 2005, the track hosted races in several series including the Indy Racing League and NASCAR
's Busch (now Nationwide) Series and Craftsman Truck Series (now Camping World Truck Series).
In addition to its 1 miles (1.6 km), D-shaped oval, the infield forms part of a 1.3 miles (2.1 km) road course and a 1/4-mile (0.4 km) short oval. Its grandstand capacity is 10,000.
PPIR reopened in 2008 with a focus on participant motorsports events. A wide variety of amateur racing groups use PPIR for racing, testing and training. With its dry sunny climate in the popular Colorado Springs area, PPIR is a popular test location for pro racing teams. Due to NASCAR's ban on testing at tracks with NASCAR races, many NASCAR teams run test sessions at PPIR.
Future plans call for the construction of additional road courses, trackside lots and motorsports business related shops, restaurant and hotel facilities.
