) is a British - American neurobiologist, and ethologist. He is emeritus professor of neurobiology, physiology and ethology of the University of California, Davis
.
He was a 1964 Guggenheim Fellow.

In 1954, he graduated from the University of Cambridge

From 1954 to 1956, he worked as a research assistant to William Homan Thorpe
and Robert Hinde

. In 1966, he was a professor at Rockefeller University
