Career

Paresh Maity has had some 43 shows in twenty years. He gradually moved from atmospheric scenery to representations of the human form. His more recent paintings are bold and graphic, with a strong color and unusual cropping. His works are in a number of collections, including the British Museum, and the National Gallery of Modern Art

His painted for newly built Terminal 3 at Delhi Airport. He has created the biggest painting of his life and probably the longest in India. It stretches up to over 850 feet and is surely one of the most monumental paintings in the world.

Awards

Paresh Maity has won a handful of prestigious awards over the years, beginning with a gold medal from USSR in 1983. Further recognition includes the Government of West Bengal award for watercolor painting (1985); Jamini Roy Birth Centenary Celebration Award (1987); Governor’s Gold Medal from Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (1988); National Scholarship (1989); AIFACS award for best watercolor painting (1990); an award by Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata in 1990; Harmony Award in 1999; and most recently, one from Royal Watercolour Society, London in 2002.
