Parathode is a village in the Idukki district
of Kerala
state in India
. Located in a valley surrounded by huge hills. The name of the place comes from the Malayalam words "Para" and "Thode". Here, "Para" means rock and "Thode" means small river (creek).
She has a Higher Secondary School named St.George H.S.S (Olympian Ms.K.M.Beenamol is a former student of this school) which run by the Christian management. The particular school was established in the year of 1960 under the same management and this is one of the best school in the territory. Apart from that, Parathode has a church named St.George Forane, which comes under Idukki Diocese.
State Bank of Travancore, Muthoot Bank and Co-operative Bank support the people for their financial demands. Other services: Head post office, Telephone exchange,ESAF,Milma society, Krishy Bhavan, Veterinary Hospital, PHC (near to Parathodu),Maveli Store, K.M.Beenamol Stadium, villager's open market and a good transportation facility and so on.
And one of the famous farmer lived in Parathodu was Kaniyamkudiyil Narayanan, who was one of the first reached here for agriculture..
Nearby places are Pullukandom,Chinnarnirappu, Panikkankudi, Kambilikandom, Muniyara, Konnathadi etc.
To reach here, one has to travel 18 kilometers from Adimali. Adimaly is 30 km away from Munnar

route. It takes almost 45 minutes to reach Parathode by public transport (Bus) from Adimali. The route is through Kallarkutty. At Kallarkutty, one has to travel over the dam. During rainy seasons, it is a spectacular scene to see the water rushing out of the dam.
Another way to reach here is from Nedumkandam
. This is also around 20 kilometers. It takes almost one and half hours to reach here from Nedumkandam through Panikkankudi.

Note: There are two more places called "Parathode" in Idukki district. One is near Nedumkandam and other one is near Kanjirappally.
The nearby places are Parathode,Irumalakkappu,Panickankudi and Chempakappara.Chinnarnirappu is blessed with the
presence of a St.Thomas shrine (A beautiful small church situated on the top of a hill).The people here are hard
working farmers.This place is suitable for site seeing and trecking (You can make an adventureful trip too). Jehovah's Witnesses
