Paper magazine is a New York City–based independent magazine covering and discovering cultural movements with a focus on fashion, design, pop-culture, nightlife, music, art and film. The magazine (dis)covers trends, new creative talent, urban American lifestyle as well as international lifestyles and is read by urban culture vultures all over the world. . PAPER was commissioned by AOL to produce a special website and provide coverage of Art Basel Miami in Dec 2010 and most recently published guides to small businesses in New York, San Francisco and Chicago for American Express for their Small Business Saturday initiatives.
Paper was founded and launched in 1984 by editors Kim Hastreiter and David Hershkovits (with Lucy Sisman and Richard Weigand) as a black and white 16-page fold-out focusing on pop-culture. The magazine evolved into an 8-inch by 10-inch format and eventually into a glossy magazine. Along with the magazine the company also publishes a website papermag.com (founded in !995) with articles, photos, blogs, and interviews. The website also features PaperTV which showcases musicians, celebrities and behind the scenes footage and party clips.
Paper Communications Inc. owns PAPER Publishing Company, PAPER Multimedia and ExtraExtra, a consulting, marketing strategy, event planning,and production company.
