Upgrade and Development

In August 2007, Papakura train station underwent a major upgrade and redevelopment as part of the Auckland Regional Transport Authority's (ARTA) system-wide upgrade of all stations in Auckland.

The new station has been built for six-car trains because of anticipated growth in passenger numbers. 3,000 people pass through each day as of 2007, and another thousand are anticipated to use the station within five years. The new station was the seventh station to be redeveloped by ARTA in 2007.

4,900,000 Papakura upgrade includes better passenger seating, customer information and lighting, as well as a new CCTV security monitoring system. There is a new footbridge with a lift.

Beginning December 2011, the station is expected to receive another major upgrade and complete redesign to prepare the station for electrification
