Afghanistan has been a harsh and exciting period, a school of life - a period in which he wrote some books ("Islam, guerra e dintorni", published by L'Harmattan (Italy) with a foreword by Jas Gawronski and translated into French under the title of "Dieu, guerre and autres paysages" with a foreword by Daniel Cohn-Bendit, "Droga di Dio", published by L'Ancora, the tale "Firenze, Herat e la forza di Kabul", published in "Imago Mundi: Piazza di Guerra", edizioni Festina Lente). In 1991 he left the United Nations and he started working at the European Parliament
, as political adviser. In 2000 he became one of the Secretaries General of the Parliament. He also managed the implementation of various projects with multimedia installations in Florence for the collective memory about the blockade of town (e.g. "Piazza di guerra", 2003), the Rwandan genocide ("Silence for Rwanda", 2004), the Holocaust ("Anatomy of a Genocide", 2009, which has been recently published by Giuntina with the title "Piccola anatomia di un genocidio - Auschwitz e oltre). In 2009 he was elected MEP with Italia dei Valori . He is now Vice-President for ALDE
(Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe) and IDV Head of Delegation in the European Parliament.
