New Pantai Expressway

New Pantai Expressway, (NPE) is a major expressway in the Klang Valley
region of Malaysia. The 19.6 km (12.2 mi) expressway has provided an easier access to Kuala Lumpur
from Subang Jaya
and Bandar Sunway
to avoid the traffic jams on the Federal Highway
route during rush hour. It comprises the Main Link and the Salak Link.

It was constructed between 2000 and 2003. Construction of the expressways was led by IJM Corporation Berhad
with its subsidiary Road Builder
. Phase 1, which is between Jengka roundabout and Bandar Sunway was completed in 2002. The next sections from Bandar Sunway to Pantai Baharu (Phase 2) and Pantai to Salak South (Phase 3: Salak Link) were completed in 2003. The expressway was officially opened on 30 April 2004.
Tujuan Interchange which replaced a T-junction was constructed between 2004 and 2006. The Bulatan Gasing ramp from NPE to Jalan Gasing was also constructed between 2004 and 2006. A special ramp to Sunway Pyramid
's parking floor was constructed between January and November 2007. It was opened in December 2007.
The NPE has 3 toll plazas located at Jalan PJS 5, PJS 2 and Pantai Dalam. Effective 14 February 2009, the PJS 2 toll plaza will no longer collect toll from NPE users heading towards the city.

The government has agreed to abolish the PJS 2 toll plaza from Seri Setia near Federal Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur beginning 0001 hours 14 February 2009.

Closure of the PJS 2 toll plaza (Kuala Lumpur bound)
On Friday, 13 February 2009, the PJS 2 toll plaza for Kuala Lumpur bound traffic along the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) would be demolished primarily to ease the burden of residents of Taman Medan, Kampung Dato' Harun and nearby areas due to the none availability of an alternative route for the KL bound residents resulting from a reconfiguration of traffic flow in the area.The NPE has 3 toll plazas located at Jalan PJS 5, PJS 2 and Pantai Dalam. Effective 14 February 2009, the PJS 2 toll plaza will no longer collect toll from NPE users heading towards the city.

PJS 2 toll plaza toll dispute
On 7 February 2009, About 50 people in Petaling Jaya South staged a peaceful rally at the New Pantai Expressway’s (NPE) PJS 2 toll plaza near Taman Medan here, demanding the NPE toll to be abolished as it was burdening the people, especially nearby residents. Acting Petaling Jaya South UMNO chief Raja Datuk Hanipuddin Raja Datuk Nong Chik said the residents had to spend an average of RM500 monthly on the toll.“They have to pay RM1.60, even though their houses are located just 200m from the toll plaza. The toll charge is probably the highest in the Klang Valley,” he told.
