The modern version was officially passed by the Ministry of Education pf Sreten Škuletić when it adopted in early 2009 the first Montenegrin Orthography (with the addition of the Orthographic Dictionary), replacing the Serbian Cyrillic script which was official until then. The act is a component part of the process of standardization of the Montenegrin language, starting in mid 2008 after adopting Montenegrin as the official language
