Playing career

Grant was perhaps the first defenceman that used his offensive prowess to help his team. The son of a Montreal blacksmith, he won three speed skating titles at the age of eleven. Utilizing this speed, Grant was known as one of hockey's first rushing defencemen. As a member and captain of the Montreal Victorias he led the club to five Stanley Cup
