Maui Time Weekly is a free alternative newspaper published weekly in the county of Maui
, state of Hawaii
. The paper is owned mostly by its publisher, Tommy Russo.
Maui Time Weekly was launched in 1997. It serves all of Maui, and is distributed every Thursday. The paper has remained independently owned and operated throughout its existence.
After D'Antonio's music group, Sunset Red concluded two successful tours of Lahaina in 1996, Road Manager Russo noted the lack of a strong community-based publication and was simultaneously building a strong sales background in print media back on the mainland. Within a year, the two Chico, California
transplants made the risky career, personal and professional move to this distant island with the will and determination to create their shared vision of a true independent community publication. Maui Time flourished as the island community embraced, supported and recognized the importance of a free and independent press to represent the wide variety of views, opinions, lifestyles, and rich host culture that Maui offers.
However, after four years as Editor-in-Chief and Art Director, Mark D'Antonio left the publication to return to a career in music and design. (He still resides in Lahaina but continues to tour musically, and is fortunate to still be endorsed by conga drum manufacturer Latin Percussion
).

History
Begun as a free bi-weekly newsprint magazine, Maui Time offered a rich island-wide combination of music, sports, art and community features, as well as Maui's first true entertainment calendar.
