Geography

Mattstetten has an area, , of 3.8 square kilometres (1.5 sq mi). Of this area, 1.89 km² (0.729733079739891 sq mi) or 49.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.28 km² (0.494210762998445 sq mi) or 33.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.58 km² (0.22393925198367 sq mi) or 15.3% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.04 km² (9.9 acre) or 1.1% is either rivers or lakes.

Of the built up area, industrial buildings made up 1.6% of the total area while housing and buildings made up 5.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 7.4%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 1.3% of the area Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 44.2% is used for growing crops and 5.0% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.

The village is located in the Urtenen valley, with part on Krauchthaler Mountain.

Demographics

Mattstetten has a population (as of ) of . , 2.6% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 1.6%. Most of the population speaks German (97.1%), with French being second most common ( 0.7%) and Dutch being third ( 0.5%).
