. MD 787 heads north as a two-lane road with a speed limit of 25 mph (40.2 km/h) through the campus of Washington Adventist University. After travelling through a pedestrian crossing traffic signal, the state highway changes from being completely within the city limits of Takoma Park to lying on the eastern boundary of the municipality. MD 787 leaves the university campus after passing Maplewood Avenue and enters a dense residential area with occasional small businesses lining the road. The state highway then reaches a four-way stop at Houston Avenue. After continuing north through more residential areas, the road enters a commercial area immediately before hitting its northern terminus at an intersection with Maryland Route 320

. MD 787 has an average annual daily traffic figure of 6650 vehicles at the northern edge of the Washington Adventist University campus, as well as an AADT of 8730 just south of MD 320.

History

Maryland Route 787 was originally designated as Maryland Route 194. MD 194 followed Flower Avenue from what was then the Prince George's County line at Chaney Drive in Takoma Park north to Franklin Avenue in Silver Spring, which was then Maryland Route 516. However, MD 194 later became involved in a route number swap involving three state highways in different parts of the state that led to its current route number.

In 2000, the 0.1 mile (0.160934 km) section of Flower Avenue between Chaney Drive and MD 195, which had been municipally-maintained, was officially removed as a state highway, leaving MD 787 at its present length.
