She is the third of four sisters, her oldest sister is interior designer, Victoria Hagan (born 1961), her second oldest sister is Christine Hagan, an attorney and vice-president of legal and business affairs for The Rachael Ray Show, and her youngest sister is Joanna Hagan Rego, a theatre producer.
She graduated cum laude with a B.A. degree in political science

and was accepted into The Columbia School of Journalism, which she deferred for two years to pursue her love for acting.
