Marechal, as it is known locally, gained from being a "planned" suburb. It contains wide avenues, a cinema, theatre, large hospital and a big church. Many of its original inhabitants were military men in view of the Army and Airforce headquarters nearby in Deodoro and Campo dos Afonsos respectively.
