.
and he typically trains 5–7 times a week, combining this with his full-time job. Taisumov is a former association football player and is presently based in the Chechen Republic.
Taisumov began his professional mixed martial arts career with an armbar victory in Germany and has gone on to compete all over Europe, including in the Czech Republic and Finland. After taking more than a year off, he returned and won his next three fights in the space of around three weeks. When he had compiling a 5–2 record, Taisumov began a three fight winning streak which led to his signing with M-1 Global
.
After fighting outside of the promotion (defeating Petr Cajnak via rear naked choke after 26 seconds), Taisumov returned and faced Julien Boussuge. Taisumov achieved victory by knock-out (punch) late in the first round.
At the Western Europe Finals, Taisumov defeated Sergey Adamchuk to become the Western Europe Championship.
Taisumov next faced Artiom Damkovsky
in October 2010. Damkovsky previously won the Eastern European Championship in the M-1 Selection tournament and fought Taisumov (as reigning Western European Champion) for the inaugural M-1 Global Lightweight title. The bout went back-and-forth, with Damkovsky getting the better of the striking. In the second round, Taisumov was able to takedown Damkovsky before hitting him with sustained ground-and-pound, before Damkovsky swept in the final minute and returned the blows. In the third round, Taisumov appeared to be too tired to attempt takedowns and opted to stand with Damkovsky. Taisumov was then poked in the eye, but after being cleared by a doctor, he refused to continue the fight. Damkovsky therefore won the bout by TKO (retirement) and became the first ever M-1 Global Lightweight Champion.
