Geography

Madiswil has an area, , of 15.85 square kilometres (6.1 sq mi). Of this area, 9.45 km² (3.6 sq mi) or 59.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 5.24 km² (2 sq mi) or 33.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.11 km² (0.428573396037714 sq mi) or 7.0% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.02 km² (4.9 acre) or 0.1% is either rivers or lakes and 0.01 km² (2.5 acre) or 0.1% is unproductive land.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 4.0% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.1%. Out of the forested land, 31.2% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.8% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 28.8% is used for growing crops and 28.5% is pastures, while 2.3% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.
