Lt. Col. Alexander Joseph Wolff was born in Badon, Austria
in 1788. His father, an army officer, was killed at the "Battle of Lake Constance
" around the year 1800. He became an orphan but was fortunate to be adopted by a British Army Officer. As a result he served in the British Army
under the Duke of Wellington.
