Loris Francesco Capovilla was born in Pontelongo

in October 1915, ordained a priest on May 23, 1940 of the Archdiocese of Venice
.
He formed a close friendship with Cardinal Roncalli (Later Pope John XXIII) when the Cardinal was Patriarch of Venice. However, he claims to have never called himself Roncalli's friend, but rather saw the older Italian as his bishop, his father, his patriarch.
He remained at Roncalli's side after his election to the Papacy and would continue to do so until the Pope's death. Loris was appointed bishop to the Archdiocese of Chieti-Vasto
on June 26, 1967 and ordained July 16, 1967.
On September 25, 1971 Loras was appointed prelate to the Loreto Prelature
and the Titular archbishop of Mesembria. He resigned his position in the Loreto Prelature
on December 10, 1988.
