London Buses route 452
Encyclopedia
London Buses route 452 is a Transport for London
contracted bus route in London
, United Kingdom
. The service is currently contracted to Abellio London
.
at Battersea Garage (QB), running from Wandsworth Road Station to Kensal Rise Station (via Kensington). The 452 was introduced because of the congestion on routes 137
and 52
, in preparation for the Congestion Charging Western Extension. The route was initially operated by Dennis Tridents but at the beginning of 2007 the new Enviro400s intended for the route were delivered. The frequency is Monday to Saturday every 8 minutes, Sunday and evenings every 12 minutes. The average journey time of the route is between 38 and 65 minutes.
There has been debate as to whether route 452 has yet reached its full potential as a north to south bus route - particularly due to the choice of terminating stops, with low rates of usage reported along the final stretches of the route. The southern terminus, at the little-used Wandsworth Road Station
and in an area with a relatively low population density, means there is only limited potential for connections to other bus routes or modes of transport.
Although the 452 was introduced in connection with the Western extension of the congestion charging zone, TfL has maintained the route following the removal of the Western extension at the end of 2010. However TfL has also committed to a review of bus services, including those in the WEZ.
