Little Motel
Encyclopedia
Little Motel is a song by the band Modest Mouse
. It is the third single to be released from the album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
.
The music video for "Little Motel" is in reverse. No members of the band are shown in it, just a mother with her son, who in the end of the video we find was dying, in the hospital. Before he dies however, she removes the monitors from him and takes him, leaving the hospital. She drives with him, taking him to a diner and eventually taking him to a motel, where she places him in the bed. This is where the video starts, going backwards, ending with where he was in the hospital bed. Presumably the mother could not bear to watch her son die in such a cold place and wanted him surrounded by comfort.
The song refers to distance between two lovers, whereas the video covers the separation from a mother and son. The video was directed by Justin Francis
