The University of West Florida, also known as West Florida and UWF, is a mid-sized public university located in Pensacola, Florida, United States. The University enrolls approximately 12,000 students, as of Fall 2009. UWF is a member institution of the State University System of Florida. The University of West Florida is a Doctoral/Research University, which specializes in engineering and the humanities. The University of West Florida was established in a partnership with the University of Florida and is known as UF’s sister University. Most academic programs at UWF were developed at UF and then turned over to UWF for administration. To date, UWF and UF have a strong partnership in their Electrical Engineering programs.[4] The university's mascot is an Argonaut, and the school's logo is the Chambered Nautilus.
