Laverton is located between Railway Avenue and Maher Road, with station access from both via a footbridge at the Werribee end of the station. Access to the footbridge from ground (street) level as well as to the platforms is available via stairs and elevator.

Laverton station opened on 1 July 1886. It was upgraded to a Premium Station in 1998.

On 6 May 2008 the Government of Victoria

The first span of the footbridge was lifted into place in October 2009, with the completed bridge opened to public access on 9 February 2010.
