 starting in 1988. Each Beast is an anthropomorphised animal with body armor that came with a unique weapon. Several figures have their left hand replaced by a weapon of some kind.

The Laser Beast line is actually the Fourth Series of the Battle Beast

 line that was released beginning in 1984. While there was a total of 76 Battle Beasts, there were only 36 Laser Beasts produced. All 36 Laser Beasts were released in Japan
