History

Konolfingen is first mentioned in 1148 as Chonolfingen. It is a relatively new municipality, having been formed from the union of Gysenstein and Stalden in 1933.

Geography

Konolfingen has an area, , of 12.79 km² (4.9 sq mi). Of this area, 8.48 km² (3.3 sq mi) or 66.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 2.44 km² (0.942089266965785 sq mi) or 19.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.85 km² (0.71428899339619 sq mi) or 14.5% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.01 km² (2.5 acre) or 0.1% is either rivers or lakes.

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 8.4% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.8%. 18.5% of the total land area is heavily forested. Of the agricultural land, 39.4% is used for growing crops and 24.6% is pastures, while 2.3% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is in rivers and streams.
