, it is one of the stops for the North Borneo Railway. Popular tourist destinations in Kinarut are the Kindawan Horse Riding Centre, Dinawan Island, Lok Kawi Wildlife Center and beautiful beaches. The main Town - Pekan Kinarut consist of shop lot, houses , a kindergarten, primary and secondary school. Every Saturday there's a special occasion known as TAMU , where tent and stall are set up in a camping style to sell goods and food by businessman and hawker to the local population. The Kinarut River park are the latest housing development in Kinarut which greatly increase the local population. Kinarut is under the administration of Papar district, which is led by the district officer.

The original people of kinarut are Bajau (Samah), Brunei and Idahan/Dusun. The Filipino causing many problems in Kinarut since the settlement. The developement and flood are the main issue here in Kinarut.
