Ketazine process

The Ketazine process is used commercially to produce hydrazine
. It is a variation of the Raschig process
, in which ammonia
is oxidized by chlorine
or chloramine
in the presence of aliphatic ketones, usually acetone
. The resulting ketazine is then hydrolysed
to hydrazine.
