Career

Vermeer began his career at his hometown club Ajax, rising through the ranks of their famous youth system. He was loaned to Willem II

 for the 2007–08 season. In the 2008–09 season he started as the second choice keeper behind Maarten Stekelenburg. When Stekelenburg got injured, Vermeer replaced him well. As a result, Ajax trainer Marco van Basten decided to make Vermeer his first choice. Under new Ajax manager Martin Jol

He represented Netherlands U-20 in U-20 World Cup which was held in his home country in 2005. He was the first choice keeper, the team exited at quarter-finals by penalties (9–10) against Nigeria U-20. Vemeer scored a penalty for the Dutch in this match.

He was a member of the Dutch squad that won the UEFA U-21 Championship in 2006 and 2007
